Common questions
- What is one-day event insurance?
- One-day event insurance is short-term special event liability for a specific gathering — such as a wedding, party, fundraiser, festival, or race — that helps address certain third-party injury and property damage claims tied to the event.
- Is event insurance for one day or year-round?
- Host coverage is for one day (or the dates you list). Year-round vendor or business policies are a different product — see Event Professionals for pro coverage.
- Who should be the named insured?
- Usually the person or organization that signed the venue contract or permit. Match the name the venue expects on the certificate of insurance (COI).
- Why does my venue require insurance?
- Venues want proof that liability coverage exists if someone is hurt or property is damaged during your event. The COI is how you show that proof before your date.
- What is a certificate of insurance (COI)?
- A COI is a summary document from the insurer showing policy limits, dates, and additional insureds. Venues often require it weeks before load-in.
- Can the venue be listed as additional insured?
- Often yes, when required and supported by the policy. Provide the venue's legal name exactly as written in your contract during the quote or COI step.
- Do I need host liquor liability for an open bar?
- Many venues require host liquor liability when alcohol is served at a wedding or party. Disclose alcohol during the quote even if your caterer has separate coverage.
- What if the caterer already has liquor insurance?
- The venue may still require the host to show event liability and host liquor on a COI. Ask the venue what they will accept before you buy.
- What does event liability insurance cover?
- Typically certain third-party bodily injury and property damage claims arising from the covered event, subject to policy terms. It is not cancellation insurance.
- Does event insurance cover wedding cancellation?
- Not usually. Cancellation or postponement coverage is a separate product focused on financial loss if the event cannot proceed.
- How much does one-day event insurance cost?
- Many one-day private celebrations run roughly $150–$400; larger weddings with alcohol often run $250–$600+. See the cost guide for sample ranges by event type.
- How do I get a quote?
- Gather your event date, venue address, guest count, and alcohol plans, then follow the how-to-get-a-quote guide or start the host quote online.
- How far in advance should I buy?
- As soon as your venue sets a COI deadline — often weeks before the event. City permits may need even more lead time.
- Can I insure a festival or 5K?
- Often yes, subject to eligibility and activities. See festival and sports event insurance pages for event-type specifics.
