Event Cancellation Insurance Explained
How event cancellation or postponement insurance differs from special event liability - and when hosts explore each product.
Liability vs cancellation
| Topic | Special event liability | Cancellation / postponement |
|---|---|---|
| Core job | Injury / property claims | Lost deposits / certain costs if event cannot proceed |
| Venue COI | Often yes | Usually not the COI the venue is asking for |
| Common concerns | Guest slips, damage claims | Weather, illness, vendor failure - subject to terms |
Planning tip
If your venue requires a COI, buy liability coverage that satisfies the contract first. Explore cancellation products separately if your budget risk is deposits and nonrefundable vendors.
Rain / weather threshold coverage
If you specifically need rain insurance (payouts tied to rainfall amounts during your event window), that is a separate agency product — call us or start at rain insurance.
